Leo's 100-200 peso challenge!
A lot of us are on a tight budget, that’s why sometimes hanging out is our least priority. But after reading this, there will be no more excuses!
My hometown is in San Pedro, Laguna, but I stay on a dormitory in Sta. Mesa, Manila. It might sound surprising my 1 hour and 30-45 minutes trip will only cost me 60.00php- Back and forth! Why? Because I ride the train. Actually it will cost me a little bit lower if I ride the ordinary train early in the morning with a fare of only 20.00php form Pacita (San Pedro) to Sta. Mesa, Manila (Near P.U.P). It’s really, really cheap. And if I miss the first trip, I ride a jeepney going to Alabang, Muntinlupa then walk a little going to the back side of Star Mall-Alabang then ride the air-conditioned train there.
That will cost me:
P15.00 - Jeepney
P15.00 - Train
P30.00 going to Manila!
The air-con trip starts from Tutuban (Near Divisoria) to Alabang (Muntinlupa). Ticket fares are P10.00, P15.00 and P20.00 depending on the distance.
Here are some of the places I visited with only a budget of 200php for transportation. (Sta. Mesa as my boarding area)
- If you want to go to Mall of Asia in Pasay like what I did in the video, alight in EDSA-Magallanes station (Southbound) take the overpass, ride the jeepney that has a ‘MOA’ sign, then you’re there.
Train – P10.00
Jeepney – P8.00/P7.00 for students
Total – P18.00
Time: 20-30 minutes
Same amount applies if you’re going back. With a budget of P200.00 you’ll definitely have extra money to spend for food and other stuff.
DESTINATION: Market! Market!/ The Fort/ Libingan ng mga Bayani
Alight in FTI station (southboubd), ride a jeepney just across the station. Don’t forget to ask so you’ll ride the right jeepney.
Time: 30-40 minutes
Back and forth will only cost you P40.00-50.00
DESTINATION: DOST/ SM Bicutan
Alight in Bicutan station (Southbound), no need to ride jeepneys anymore, just where the place is. It’s near the station so you’ll get there easily.
Same rate applies going back
DESTINATION: Tutuban Mall/ Divisoria/ 168 Mall
Alight in Tutuban station (Northbound), the last station going north. Tutuban station also serves as a museum and gallery of past and present train, might as well check before heading to your destination. The trip will cost you P10.00 and the trip lasts around 10 minutes.
If I’m going to sum up the entire total of my fares it would be P116.00! Four destinations and I only get to spend P116.00! I definitely had extra money for food and buy things I like. Who says you need a lot of money when you want to travel? Travelling is like bargaining, find the cheapest and easiest way to get to your destination so you can spend time and money to what you really love most.
