During the Spanish era, Malabon City was then known as “Tambobong” and founded by Augustinians as a “Visita” of Tondo in May 21, 1599. The word Malabon came from the word “Malabong” or “Maraming Labong” because plenty of edible bamboo shoots are visible in the city. For 70 years, Malabon was part or Rizal province not until in November 7, 1975, Malabon became a part of Metro Manila. It was then became a city under Republic Act No. 9019 in April 21,2011.
