HIstory
Navotas City known as “The Fishing Capital of the Philippines” was once part of Malabon. According to legend, the sea created an opening connecting the two bodies of water resulting for a strip of land to be separated from Malabon and the people called the strip of land “butas” “nayon ng nabutas” or “nabutas” a tagalong word which means pierced through.

Later of the same year, Navotas became an independent town. On January 16, 1906, Navotas became an independent municipality with the enactment of Act. No. 1442, which separated it from Malabon. Navotas was officially founded as a city on June 24, 2007.
